The Defence Intelligence College ended the 2014 Academic Calendar with the Combined Graduation Ceremony of the Defence Intelligence Officers Course 13/14, Intermediate French Officers Course 02/14 and Document Security Course 07/14 at the SY Audu Hall of the College on 12 December 2014.
The Defence Intelligence Officers Course is a 24 weeks course designed to introduce staff of the agency on grade level 9 to 12, the Armed Forces and other sister Agencies, to the evolution, theory and basic principle in intelligence and security. It is also aimed at providing students with requisite skills to deal with intelligence problems in all dimensions.
The Intermediate French Officers’ Course is a 12 weeks course designed to train DIA personnel and those of the services to a level where they can appreciably speak, read and write in French Language. They will also be equipped to write reports and analyse French texts.
The Document Security Course is designed to train clerical staff in the Agency, the 3 services, Ministry of Defence and other relevant Agencies to meet career challenges in their respective units.
During his graduation speech, the Commandant Commodore MA Emuekpere congratulated the graduating students and charged them to be good ambassadors of the College. He reiterated that the tasks and challenges before the Defence Intelligence Agency, Ministries, Departments and Agencies that deal with intelligence and security issues are getting increasingly wider and enormous. He encouraged the Agency and other concerned MDAs to continue to develop professional competencies in order to maintain their relevance and effectiveness. He also acknowledged the unflinching support of the Chief of Defence Intelligence Rear Admiral GE Okoi to the College and promised that the College would continue to strive hard towards the realization of the Agency’s vision in the area of human capacity development.
The high point of the Combined Graduation was the introduction of the Commandant Leadership Award to the course leaders of the respective courses and the best student from Departments and Agencies. These 2 awards were the first of its kind in the history of the College. The Commandant Leadership awards were given to Dr SA Said, the Course Leader for the DIOC class and WO B Ozegbe the Course Leader for Document Security Course. The award for the best student from other Departments and Agencies was received by ASM Adache, a personnel of Economic and Financial Crime Commission on the Course. .
The best graduating Student of the Defence Intelligence Officers Course 13/2014 was Dr PO Omokri, while the second and third position went to Mrs. VO Awosika and Lt (NN) AO Ehanmo respectively. Also, Miss MO Odey received the overall best student in the Intermediate French Officers Course 02/2014, Lt Cdr TG Abusi and Miss JE Effiong received the second and prize respectively. The prize for the overall best student in Document Security Course 07/2014 went to ABWTR BE Bamikunle, Mr PH Adaka came second WO B Ozegbe came third on the course.
